Between 2016 and 2020, Belize has limited its net rate of land use change for prioritized natural ecosystems/areas to no more than 0.6% per year.
By 2020, at least 17 per cent of terrestrial and inland water, and 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, are conserved through effectively and equitably managed
By 2020, at least 17 per cent of terrestrial and inland water, and 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, are conserved through effectively and equitably managed [...]
1.1: The network of protected areas and conservation areas includes a representative sample of ecosystems and species, and is coherent and effectively managed.
1.3.2 At least 200 PAs have at least one management assessment available by 2023
10: By 2020, Zambia’s protected area network is rationalized to achieve representativeness and ecological connectivity at landscape level.
11: By 2022, at least 10% of Swaziland’s land area, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, protected landscapes and multiple resource use areas are conserved [...]
11: By 2025, at least 16% of terrestrial and inland water, and 10% of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, are conserved through effectively and equitably managed [...]
11: By 2025, at least 25% of all Botswana’s ecoregions, particularly the wetlands, rivers and pans in them, are effectively conserved through an ecosystem approach [...]
11: The conservation and restoration of lowland and highland wetlands.
11A: By 2025, evaluate and redefine 75% of current conservation areas, and include, formally, 100% of the afromontane endemism centers (altitude >1.500m) and up to 5% of marine ecosystems and mountain in conservation areas.
11B: By 2030, manage, effectively and equitably, 50% of the protected areas.
12: By 2025, the extinction of known threatened species is prevented and their conservation status is improved and sustained.
14.4 By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible
14.5 By 2020, conserve at least 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas, consistent with national and international law and based on the best available scientific information
15.1 By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements
15.2: By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally
15.4: By 2030, ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to enhance their capacity to provide benefits that are essential for sustainable development
15.5: Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species
1: Development, finalization and promulgation of new protected area legislation.
2.1: By 2022, the rate of loss and degradation of natural habitats outside protected areas serving as ecological corridors or containing key biodiversity areas or providing important ecosystem services is minimized through integrated land use planning.
2: To optimize the representative nature and viability of biodiversity covered by the protected area network utilising best current information.
3.1a: By 2018, existing terrestrial protected areas (national parks) are conserved, effectively and equitably managed, within an ecologically representative and well-connected system [...]
3.1b: [...] and by 2020, coastal and marine areas, of particular importance to biodiversity and ecosystem services are identified and measures for their protection initiated.
3: Protected areas are managed effectively based on sound scientific research and management monitoring regimes that inform adaptive management cycles.
4: By 2020, at least 20% of terrestrial, inland water and 15% of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem service, are conserved [...]
4: To ensure sustainable financing of protected areas in the short and medium term through the establishment of a consolidated framework for the financial, operational efficiency and coherency of the protected area network.
6: By 2025, at least 50% of the degraded terrestrial habitats are restored and protected.
9: By 2020, at least 28% of Zimbabwe’s terrestrial and inland water under protection is being maintained and conserved, and protected area connectivity is being enhanced through integrated resource management.
A national system, including protected areas, for the management and conservation of biodiversity is developed and established by 2020. This will include, terrestrial areas, wetlands, areas important to migratory species and marine environments.
Aichi Target 05 on Natural Habitats
Aichi Target 10 on Vulnerable Ecosystems
Aichi Target 11 on Protected Areas
Aichi Target 14 on Ecosystem Services
By 2020 an effective monitoring protocol for critical habitats, mainly forests, mangroves and coral reefs has been implemented to assist in reducing degradation and fragmentation and measures developed and undertaken to reduce the rate of loss by 10%.
By 2020, at least 17% of terrestrial and inland water, and 10% of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, are managed consistent with approved plans.
By 2020, at least one marine and one additional terrestrial area will be formally declared and appropriate management plans are operationalized.
By 2020, implement protection measures for threatened species including the racer snake, marine turtles, Redonda Dwarf Gecko, Redonda Ground Lizard threatened plants, and threatened birds.
By 2020, the rate of loss of all natural habitats, including marine habitats, is at least halved and degradation and fragmentation is significantly reduced.
By 2020, three key corridors identified under the National Protected Areas Policy and System Plan are physically and legally established, and effectively managed.
C1: D’ici à 2030, au moins 17% des zones terrestres et d’eaux intérieures et 10% des zones marines et côtières, protégées représentatives du patrimoine national de biodiversité sont conservées [...]
End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Habitat restroration
Maintain elephant population at 200
Objective 1: People are aware of the value of biodiversity and the steps they can take to conserve and use it sustainably
Objective 2: Both economic development and biodiversity conservation recognise and support sustainable livelihoods, cultural heritage, knowledge and expressions and community resilience and development aspirations
Objective 3: Identify, conserve, sustainably manage and restore priority sites, habitats and ecosystems, including cultural sites
Objective 5: Manage threats to biodiversity, especially climate change, invasive species, over exploitation and habitat loss and degradation
Objective 6: Build capacity and partnerships that strengthen synergies between science, policy, local knowledge systems and indigenous sciences and enhance local and international agreements to effectively mobilise resources to achieve Objectives 1-5
Priority Target - Key national terrestrial and marine ecosystems are restored and sustainable managed. The priority ecosystems are forest, agriculture, fresh water and coastal and marine (Aichi Targets 6,7,8,9,10,11,14)
Protect and recover threatened species and preserve biodiversity, focusing on species and genetic diversity of ecological, cultural and economic significance
